The Godfather, Part II: The Coppola Restoration
More than three decades after The Godfather and The Godfather, Part II both won the Academy Award for Best Picture; Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic classics have been meticulously restored by Paramount Pictures using state-of-the-art digital technology. Robert A. Harris of the Film Preserve supervised the restorations under the direction of Coppola, with extensive consultation from cinematographer Gordon Willis.
The first two installments of The Godfather triumvirate are some of the most celebrated works of American cinema, yet the majority of its admirers who first experienced, and continue to revisit, the films on DVD and cable have been treated to insufficiently transferred version, which have dimmed and softened from poor treatment.
Harris’ skilled team of artist-technicians has achieved the closest approximation of the genuine article within their means, rejuvenating the original color and enhancing the visual details to best resemble the original prints. The new editions of Coppola’s masterworks have revived Willis’ golden glow, while improving the range of his shadowy palette that beautifully renders the feel for clannish insularity in the Corleones’ post-war America.
The Ragtag Cinema’s Missouri Theatre Film Series is pleased to present an exclusive screening of The Godfather, Part II: The Coppola Restoration in a new 35mm print, January 23 at 8:00pm. Featuring a special musical guest and complimentary wine from Glazer’s.
General admission tickets: $9 ($7 for students & seniors)
